Salento: A beautiful land, kissed by the sun and the sea
From the B&B Lu Cantoru, Salento’s most popular locations are within easy reach: the sea, art, and cuisine.
Pescoluse is one of the most beautiful locations in all of Salento. Its crystal clear sea and white sand beaches make it a popular tourist destination.
Alongside the immense beauty of the landscape, this area also has a rich history. In fact, you can visit the Tower of Masseria Borgino dating back to the sixteenth century. The coast is scattered with these towers; their function was to spot the Saracen pirates who settled the beaches of Salento in the 16th century.
You’ll also notice the interesting stone huts called “pajare” scattered throughout the territory. They are built with the same technique as the stone walls that divide the olive groves and are so typical of this area.
From Pescoluse, you can reach other very interesting destinations: the surrounding coast, for example, is full of karst caves. The most famous is the Zinzulusa Cave in Castro, which captivates its visitors at first glance.
Many other smaller caves are scattered throughout the area. Those in Santa Cesarea Terme gave rise to natural thermal pools and can be visited by boat. In the Tricase area, there is the Grotta delle Tre Porte, which owes its name to the cave’s three openings to the sea from a single cave, and the Cala dell’Elefante.
